TRICK or TREAT
Yesterday Filene's ran a large ad in the newspaper featuring great coupons, so how could I resist?

I really do not like to go to the mall, but I desperatly need some fall clothes to tide me over until I go to Florida, so I pulled my self together and went! After searching the racks I finally found some things to try on. Went in and out of the fitting room at least three times before I found some slacks that fit.

The store was hot, I was overdressed, and had to wait in line to check out my purchases. Finally it was my turn. I asked the cashier which coupons I could use, had one for 10%, one for 20% and one for 50%. She said that I could not use any of them because my items were "SUPERIOR VALUE."

Well, I bought the slacks anyway but they won't see me at the mall for a very long time.

That was a trick on me and certainly no treat!

SURPRISE
Recently I read a post by Texas Trifles about her dad when he was a cop and had a nerve-racking experience. That reminded me of an incident that happened to my husband and I a number of years ago. When he retired we were ready to skip the New England winters and spend time in Florida. We had to find a rental and not knowing anyone that could help us find a place, we resorted to the real estate rental ads in the newspaper. There were not many ads to follow up but finally we found one that sounded like it would meet our needs.

The owner of the property lived locally and invited us to her home so we could get more in depth information and she could screen us. We should have screened her! I smelled a rat but was anxious to get a place to hang our hats. She showed us pictures of the place and they looked good. A lesson was learned, "DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE IN A PICTURE." I could write a book about our trials and tribulations in that condo but that is for another time.

It was a one bedroom Condo so when my son and his wife came down for a visit we had to open the sofabed. Lo and behold when the coach was opened, there tucked in the bend of the mattress was a GUN! We immediately called the owner and she said , "call the sheriffs office." It was frightening to see the gun , never saw a real gun and never want to see one again.

My son said, "wait until we leave", did not want to spoil their vacation with police business but we wanted to get that gun out of our place as soon as possible.

Well when the sheriff showed up he took a good long look at the gun, studied it carefully and said, "This is a toy gun."

What a relief!

CONGRATULATIONS to ME
It is one year since I started blogging and I just wanted to tell all my friends out there what a wonderful experience it has been.

Where to start? It has given me something to look forward to every day, has increased my knowledge about many things, has given me many good laughs, and has caused me to think about my past, present and future.

In addition to all of that, it has brought my son and I closer together because now I share something with him that he is very involved with. If it weren't for Steve, I would not be blogging. He is the guy that is responsible for making my blog look so good.

Somehow he finds the right picture to make my blog better. I know he gets the images from doing a Google search, but I am not asking him how he gets it on my post because he might tell me and I am not ready for that yet!

You have heard of a personal trainer? Well I do not have one, but I have a personal computer trouble shooter! Whenever I have a problem, I just pick up the phone or send an e-mail and I get help.

I want to thank everyone out there who reads my blog, leaves comments and encourages me to keep blogging!

MAY AND DECEMBER
In todays Boston Globe, Confidental Chat section, I read a very interesting letter from a 70 year old widow who has been having a relationship with a 40 year old man. She says she is very young acting and most people think she is in her late 50s or early 60s. He says he has always been attracted to older women, has more money then her, so it is not money that he is after. 'Nature Girl' has a great figure and people say she is pretty and men have always liked her.

What do you think about this relationship?

I say "go for it." This guy drives!

Men closer to her age, if they drive, they do not drive at night!

THE BIG QUESTION
When I was a little girl growing up had a pal that I did many things with, we played marbles, jump rope, hopscotch and sometimes we just sat on the front stoop and talked. One day the conversation turned to a very mysterious subject. Where do babies come from? Wow, that was heavy stuff. We certainly were not going to ask our parents so we put our heads together and shared our thoughts.

My idea was that when two people got married and the Rabbi pronounced them man and wife, it would just happen and sooner or later the wife would get the baby in her stomach and then give birth. My friend disagreed with me and said that the baby came in the doctors suitcase! Well I strongly disagreed with her and she stuck to her guns.

Along came a neighbor, Mrs. Carp, I still remember her name, and I said to my friend, let's ask Mrs Carp! Poor Mrs Carp.

I spoke up and asked her, Do babies came from the mothers stomach or from inside the doctors suitcase?" What do you know, she said they come from inside the doctors suitcase!!!!

Even though my friend got the answer she wanted, our friendship was never the same after that.

HOW TO WIN A CONTEST
Summer vacations for the Garfields meant a week at Grand Lake Lodge in Lebanon, Conn. We went there for many years so the owners knew us very well and were gracious hosts and treated us like family. My son was very young at the time and asked us if the owners were our relatives.

Many of our friends and their families joined us every year so between the couples, their children and other guests, we knew a lot of people.

One night at the social hall they held a dance contest. I do not know what possessed me but the entertainer asked for volunteers for the cha cha dance competition, I put my hand up! I am an ok dancer but had no business getting involved. He danced with each of the volunteers and then asked the audience to vote. I Won! The reason was not because I was the best dancer, it was because I knew more people in the audience then the other dancers!

"It is not what you know but who you know."
