A DISCOVERY
Those of you who read my blog on a regular basis know that even though I am close to 80 I still refer to my friends as "The Girls." Time marches on but they will always be "The Girls" to me.

I recently attended a high school production of "Damn Yankees" at a beautiful low rise building in Boca Raton. This school looks NOTHING like the school that I attended in the 40's.

Before the play started I decided to use the ladies room and lo-and behold the sign out front read "GIRLS." For a moment I forgot that I was in a high school and thought "what a nice name."

Some public places try to be clever and call the rest rooms things like Lads and Lasses, Him and Her, some have a picture of a male and a female. Sometimes I can not tell the difference!

I finally found a ladies room that speaks my language!

MARRIAGE 101 -COMMITMENT
It was 1957 when my husband and I got married. The vows that we made are the same as what they are today - For better or worse, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.

When we made that commitment it was forever. Young people today seem to think differently.

Back in the 50's there was no living with each other before marriage, so there was a lot to learn about your mate. Even today when a couple live together it is still different after you get married. Somehow that piece of paper makes a difference.

After we were married for a number of years we heard about a group called "Marriage Encounter". The purpose was to help couples make a good marriage great It involved a weekend away at a hotel, no TV, no newspapers and no radio. We attended group sessions and then had assignments on various subjects.

One morning we spent time with a young couple who told us they were recently married.
They had been living together for sometime and their parents were after them to marry. Finally they gave in and got married. I never forgot what they told us, "If it does not work we will get a divorce!"

True, the parents should not have pushed them, but it still told me a lot about how they were thinking.

To this day I think that if you make a commitment you have to give it all you have to make it work.

A DOGGIE BAG
Comes March in Florida we start having "Good Bye Lunches." Tommorow it is the Burgundy Pool party at a local restaurant.

This has not been a "Pool" winter but it will be good to get together with the "pool girls" before we all start going home. Lunch is called for 11:30am.

Yesterday I received a call from a cousin who lives here all year round and invilted me for dinner tommorrow at 3:30 pm. That is not a typographical error, 3:30 pm is the correct time!!. My cousin is in her late 80's and gets up very early in the morning so breakfast is at 5:00 am, lunch at 11am and dinner at 3:30 pm.

I could not refuse the invitation, after all it is going to be corned beef and cabbage, what I will have to do is ask for a doggie bag. That is going to be a first, I usually take home a doggie bag from a restaurant but not from a private home.

There is a first time for everything!

GETTING TO KNOW YOU
Remember that beautiful song, "Getting To Know You" from The King and I, well that brings back memories of how I got to know my future husband. In a previous post I wrote about how we met. After that initial meeting we would see each other at local dances and would spend some time together.

The following summer we would meet at the beach, kibitz and play chess. I really was not interested in the game but I was playing my own game!

Money was tight in those days and when we finally had an official date, it was the movies and coffee afterwards. I was dating several fellows at the time and even though I was in my late 20's I was not thinking marriage. After a while it became a regular Saturday night date and I was getting to know this guy and my thinking changed.

That Fall the circus came to town and somehow I got two free tickets and asked my date to join me. He knew I was seeing other fellows and was very flattered that I invited him. After that evening, things changed, he became my steady date.

That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

to be continued

TUNA WELLINGTON
The other night I went to a meeting of the Boston Club where people who come from Massachusetts are invited to attend.

Seated at my table was a couple that I met in Florida many years ago. We talked about old friends and the good times we had. At one point my friend asked me, "were you the one that gave me the recipe for a tuna dish that I always enjoyed?"

It took a few minutes to think back, after all it had to be at least 15 years ago, then it came to me, it was Tuna Wellington!

She lost the recipe and would like to make it again. Well it has been so long ago that I could not remember it BUT I have it in a cookbook that I compiled years ago entitled "Nice and Easy Cookbook." I put it together for my son before he went to college, just in case he wanted to cook.

It so happens that I have a copy of that book here in Florida so I will be able to get it to her.

This is it!

Millie's Tuna Wellington
2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Dinner Rolls
2 cans tuna, drained
mayonnaise, to taste
2 stalks celery,chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 egg yolk

Mix tuna with mayonnaise, celery, onion and lemon. Place rolls on ungreased cookie sheet as shown:

Brush with a beaten egg yolk. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

Enjoy!
