DISAPPOINTED in "THE GAME"
"Play the Game" just opened in South Florida - before bigger markets such as New York and Los Angeles.

The film has a terrific cast - Andy Griffith, (remember him in Mayberry R.F.D.?, Doris Roberts, Raymond's mother and Liz Sheridan, Seinfeld's mother. So far, so good.

Grandpa Joe (Griffith) is finally seeking companionship years after his wife died. His grandson David (Paul Campbell) instructs grandpa how to "play the game." Tells him where to meet a lady, play hard to get and let them chase you.

David plays that game with Julie (Maria Sokoloff) but his game doesn't work on her.

Grandpa makes out much better then David!

I'm still trying to figure out why I didn't care for either of the young people in their roles. Maybe the idea of "The Game" bothered me. It was all just to cute!

The word "hemorrhoids" was used a number of times, I just didn't think it was funny.

There were a few good moments, a few laughs but all in all not my cup of tea.

There were a few scenes where Grandpa Joe and his grandson David are sitting by a lake on SAND CHAIRS!

Now tell me, what 82 year old senior can not only sit in one of those chairs but, GET OUT OF A SAND CHAIR!! I haven't been able to do that in years!!

I haven't seen any reviews of this movie but I'll be looking forward to reading what "they" have to say.

My opinion: "Andy Griffith should have stayed in Mayberry, R.F.D."

Comments:
Millie, I hope they see your blog so they will know what they need to change about the movie!

Thanks Millie. I was wondering when this was coming out and whether it would be any good. I had the pleasure of working as Andy Griffiths' stand-in for 3 days of the original shoot. It was interesting!

Never even heard of this movie and I am guessing due to the demographics where I live, it will not be shown. Looks like I am not missing much.

Andy was loveable in "Matlock", too, but he was so cute as a young southern sheriff.

I might take a pass on a film that cheapens my favorite sheriff...

The roles of the main characters sound interesting but I agree the chairs alone would spoil it for me. At 74 I would need a proverbial sky hook to get me upright.

I haven't seen it and now I am wondering if I want to. I saw Clint Eastwood in "GranTorino" and he played the role to the hilt and very believably. A geriatric Dirty Harry! And I still think he's a hunk.

I haven't seen any reviews on this movie - maybe it will just be on DVD.

Some friends saw it and said it was "cute."

Pattie
I agree with you - well said.

Maybe Andy at 82, is in better shape then I thought. Most of us at that age can't get out of a lounge chair, let alone a sand chair.

That last comment was mine

Millie

Millie, I know EXACTLY what you mean about those sand chairs. I'm overweight and I wouldn't try to sit on one of those things if my life for anything. I have no idea how I'd be able to get back up and out of it...lol

Haven't heard of this movie here.
About sand chairs, even 64 years old have trouble getting up. I never even try to sit in one! LOL
