WORDS THAT STILL RING TRUE
The other day the Sun Sentinel had a very interesting article by Steve Rosen about Elbert Hubbard who described himself as a homespun philosopher.

In a recently found book titled "The Notebook of Elbert Hubbard" published by family members in 1927 there are many quotations from simpler times that still have meaning in today's world.

Here are some wonderful examples:
Talk less and listen more. (MORE PEOPLE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE)

The best preparation for good work tomorrow is to do good work today.

It is easy to get everything you want, provided you first learn to do without the things you cannot get.

The greatest mistake you can make is to be continually fearing you will make one.(THAT"S A GOODY)

Better mend one fault in yourself than a hundred in your neighbor.

Before you are fit to give orders, you must be willing to take orders. The leader of the orchestra has always been a man who has played second fiddle.

Do work with your whole heart and you will succeed - there is no competition.

The actual benefit of college does not come so much from curriculum as from the change of environment. New people, new scenes, new conditions with which to cope - these are the things for growth. (MY FAVORITE)

Enthusiasm is the great hill-climber. (SO TRUE)
What's your favorite?

TODAY I'M PLAYING CATCH-UP
Today I'm doing something very unusual, I'm staying home all day!

There are bills to pay, laundry to do, calls to make, a wonderful book to read (The Sacrifice of Tamar by Naomi Regan) AND am finally able to sit down and make a post.

My calender is so full - I work with a very large desk calender which has big squares but I find the squares are just not big enough so what I have to do is make an arrow and go into another square. I could try to write smaller but so far I have not been able to do that.

Some days I have to choose what activity or event I want to attend. For example I had an opportunity to see a show at my clubhouse by an entertainer that I was not familiar with or attend a free event held at the Spanish River library in Boca Raton.

THE LIBRARY

I heard that the library was "something to see" and the entertainer for the afternoon was Steve Leeds and Trio who were going to perform Sinatra numbers - well that made my mind up!

What a wonderful afternoon. Steve has a great voice, great personality and had the audience in the palm of his hands!!

Oh, and the library was really something special - looks more like a beautiful resort. Leave it to Boca to build something so special.

MOVIES

I'm pretty much up to date on the movies. Here are my thoughts on some of the recent movies I've seen, rated using the Florida Orange system.

In my opinion:

King's Speech 4 Florida Oranges
The Fighter 4 Florida Oranges
Mao's Last Dancer 3 1/2 Florida Oranges
Burlesque 2 Florida Oranges
The Tourist 2 Florida Oranges

COMMUNITY CENTER

The Center is new in the area and has a lot to offer (if you can get your foot in the door)

I was able to sign up for a few classes. This coming week I will be attending a "Yiddish Conversation Group" and a Movie Review and Discussion Group.

So you can see where I am coming from and why I am so happy to be home today - I need time to recharge my battery!

I CAN SEE THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL
First off - Wishing you and yours a "Very Happy New Year!

She's Melting! Copley Square First Night Ice Sculpture in 60 Degrees

It's been less than a month since I arrived in Florida, everything is in it's place, the house is well stocked but there is one thing that is not in it's place.

There is very little routine here - the only thing that I know for sure is, Mah Jongg on Monday afternoons.

I had planned on spending a leisure afternoon at the pool (the sun is finally shining) but I received an invitation to join some dear friends for a late lunch (or call it a very early dinner) at the Sweet Tomatoes.

Backyard Farms Tomatoes

They are known for their soups, salads and bakery. How could I say no to that.

The place is so popular that if you arrive for lunch at 12:00 you could have a very long wait and if you arrive for dinner at 5:00 you could have a very long wait.

That's why I'll be picked up at 3:00. That's the way it is in Florida. I don't know if there is any other place in the country where you have to think ahead like that!!

I'm squeezing in this post before I take off for the day. My usual routine is to make a post every Sunday and I've been doing that for the past seven years.

As I said earlier, it's hard to have a routine here in Florida so as of 2011 I'll still be posting but not on a regular basis. When the spirit moves me or I have something special to post about I'll do my thing.

I'll see how it goes!
