HOW TO STAY YOUNG
I was going through some papers today and found this article that I had tucked away to use as a post one day.
Here it is:
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. These include age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." The devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things. When the childred are young, that is all that you can afford. When they are in college, that is all that you can afford. When you are on retirement, that is all that you can afford!
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be alive while you are alive, don't put out a mailbox on the highway of death and just wait in your residence for your mail.
7. Surround yourself with what you love whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, try to improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips, Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country, but not to guilt country.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them at every opportunity.
LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE NUMBER OF BREATHS WE TAKE, BUT BY THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE OUR BREATH AWAY!

Excellent advice. I've heard some of these before, but never the one about laughing at the store detectives when they are arresting you for shoplifting. That doesn't sound like a good idea. Or did I get it wrong?
Good advice. I enjoyed that, Millie, thanks. I particularly like the Keep learning and the Laugh often parts!!! They should be practised every day, like exercise!

I can do the laughing part every day, no problem), but when you say laughing should be like exercise that you do everyday - that's where I fail!! ;-)

Millie,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful advice that we all need to pay more attention to. From what I know of you, you seem to exemplify so much of what is said.
I would also like to share an additional suggestion made by a rabbi I know. At the end of the week, gather some moment from each day of the week into a beautiful bouquet in your mind to take with you into the next week. Leave all of the unpleasantness behind. And for those of us who can't always remember those moments by the time the end of the week rolls around, it helps to write them down in a calendar.

My dear Millie,
What great advice! I esp appreciated the last comment. Thanks!
I'm sneaking off to use the computer. The kids are trying to make me rest my arm and shoulder but I can't stand any more of this blog deprivation! However they're both asleep now and I'm being very quiet because I want to send you and Steve my very best wishes for a New Year. You've helped make this past year very special. Without you and your support I'd never have the rich rewards of blogging. For that I'll be forever grateful.
I'm hoping to visit my granddaughter in Manhattan this fall. What fun it would be to see you. when do you leave for FL?

It's almost candle-lighting time for the New Year. I am thinking of you with great affection and sending my very best wishes for a year of health, happiness and prosperity---in every way.
May GD send special blessings to all of us in the coming year.
Lovingly,
lucyd

Lots of good advice...especially the positive attitude. Actually I think all of life is determined by out attitude toward it. Simple, but not easy. Thanks for the good post.

Hi Pattie
Thanks for the New Years wishes!
About Down in the mouth - I know you are funny and clever and when I first read it, I said to myself, "am I missing something" and then I got the second message! ;-)
Aha!
