FILLING UP MY FREEZER
Before I turn around I'll be going in for hip replacement surgery. From what the surgeon tells me I can expect to be in the hospital for four days and then be in a rehabilitation facility for about two weeks.

Oh, and what I just found out is that I have to be at the hospital at 7:00am - surgery is scheduled for 8:30 AM!

In the good old days you were admitted to the hospital the DAY BEFORE the surgery. Now the hospital saves money where ever they can and sleepyheads like me have no choice but to show up THE DAY OF THE SURGERY at the crack of dawn.

When I return home I'm sure I will have all kinds of people showing up, nurses, therapists and social workers, but no cooks.

With that in mind, the other day I was inspired to do something I haven't done in a very long time. I cooked!!!

I had a pound of hamburg in the freezer, defrosted it, and made a meat loaf.

Well, I happened to have two sweet potatoes on hand, so I tossed them in too. While I was at it I thought of the apples that I have had in the refigerator for a while. Why not bake some apples while the oven was on?

I mixed up some cinnamon, sugar, raisins and a little cranberry juice and poured it over the apples.

While all this was baking in the oven, the kitchen had such a delicious aroma.

Once the meat loaf was done I sliced it into six generous portions and placed them in individual freezer containers. When the sweet potatoes cooled, I mashed them up with some butter and added a serving to each dish.

Into the freezer they went for use when I won't be inclined to cook. As far as the baked apples, I've been enjoying them every now and then, sometimes I top an apple with a splash of cool-whip. Yum!!

I enjoyed my session in the kitchen and hope to do more "filling up of the freezer" soon.

Hope the surgery goes well and you'll be back to dancing very soon.
Meatloaf looks yummy!

Praying your surgery goes well.
The menu made me hungry. So I guess I'll have to cook tomorrow.
Take care, Millie!

Sorry about you body part failing. It seems we all get to look forward to that because the alternative is not as nice. Hope for a speedy recovery.

A very smart move Millie. Those morsels of delicious food will taste extremely good when recovery time comes. My thoughts will be with you during the surgery procedure and recuperation. I hope all goes quickly and well.

Thoughts will be with you Millie, hope you are back at your laptop soon. KP

Too bad I don't live close enough to pop over after you are home with some goodies to eat. I'd love to share a plate of meatloaf with you!

Good thinking, Millie. You are right; you will not feel like cooking or doing much of anything except your exercises. You may not feel like doing them, but they are necessary for a speedy recovery.

With modern surgery, I know all will go well. It's not a walk in the park, but after you are home again you will be so glad you went through it.

To all my blogging friends

Many thanks for your good wishes. I'll probably make one more post before I go in for surgery. May 11 is D Day.

I'll have Steve keep you posted on my progress. I know I won't be dancing but if I can walk without pain I'll be a happy camper.

Many good wishes, Millie. Bet you'll get some personal food deliveries while recovering.

Good luck with the surgery.

I'll be praying for you. God bless you with the surgery!
