EVERYTHING IN MODERATION
It's in every magazine, newspaper and book we read telling us to cut back on the eating, drinking and smoking. The articles also recommend that we exercise more, I'm aware of those articles since I'm one of those people who should get moving!!

When I look back at all the things I did last week I realize why I was totally out of commission when Tuesday rolled around.

Last Friday night I met a friend for dinner, haven't seen her in a while so we had lots to catch up on. We were there during "Happy Hour" and took full advantage of "being happy."

The restaurant was not too busy, the waiter gave us excellent service, we were in no rush to leave so we must have been there a good three hours. That was a lot of sitting.

Saturday night I got together with my "movie friend." "A Separation" was the 4 star film we saw. It was on for 123 minutes!! After all that sitting, the ending leaves you to draw your own conclusion. I didn't like that!

After the movie we went over to a nearby restaurant which was very busy. After a half hour wait we got seated and again there was a lot of sitting.

I'm not through sitting yet!!!

Sunday night I was fortune to have a ticket to see John Davidson at our club house. That must have been the third time I've seen him - and you know what: he was better than ever!!! What a performer!!!

We made it a point to get to the club house early, the show was a sellout so in order to get a reasonable place to park , the early bird gets the spot!!

So again I had a lot of sitting!!!

Monday afternoon I play Mah Jong with five ladies. That way, one lady can sit out and stretch her legs.

That particular Monday one lady could not make it so the four of us played, so again I had a lot of sitting!!!

Now comes Tuesday - Once a month I get together with some friends for lunch and a card game. I knew when I woke up that morning I was in no condition to "sit again." I stayed home and rested.

"This old gray mare" is not what she used to be and has to do "everything in moderation! Even sitting!!!

Comments:
My goodness you need to get together with some friends at the gym or pool methinks. LOL

Methinks you are right!!! I'll be going back North soon and once I get settled have to sign up for some type of physical activity.

Being in the water would be good for you, Millie. It isn't strenuous on your joints and it feels good. I don't like to sit a lot either - I get stiff.

Hi Mom,
You don't have to wait until you get back up North. Can you get out and walk?

Isn't that just like a son to tell you to get out and walk.LOL Just enjoy what you are doing and maybe park the car a further distance from the theatre and restaurants. Then you get in a little exercise.

Millie, do some walking.
I do not sit enough with so
much to do in this small cottage.
gardening and much more.
So I am trying to pace myself
and not do so much...

Millie, you should get yourself a pedometer, put it in your pocket, and check it out every night, to see how many steps you took
To be healthy, you need at least 6000 steps a day to start with. I have found wearing a pedometer very stimulating!
I cannot do a lot of sitting because it kills my kness!

Claude

Using a pedometer sounds like a very good idea. I'll make it a point to get one and discover what I need to do.

Those knees can be an awful pain, the back can be an awful pain and getting older can be an awful pain but we manage to roll with the punches!! ;-)

Oh, I remember seeing John Davidson at his Central Ohio Granville University alma mater when he was still a student there. He sang a song from The Fantastiks in a memorable performance.

Keep walkin' -- I need to do more of it and drag out my pedometer I got several years ago.

Sit on hard or soft surface makes a difference in the long term. Mum in her 50s thinks hard is better.
