CHANGES
It's funny, just last week I made a post about "Somethings Never Change" and here I am today writing about a change that took place this week.

This grouchy old lady is not happy about it.

A few years ago the Boston Globe introduced a section called "Sidekick." I was not happy about it and wrote the newspaper about my feelings. At that time they had a nice young man assigned to that new endeavor. He responded to me and acknowledged that there were problems with the new section and the Globe was working to improve it.(As a matter of fact I made a post about it.)

As time went by they did make improvements on "Sidekick" and I got used to it. This "old old" lady doesn't like most changes, some changes, if they happen are for the better (like what will hopefully happen in the coming election.)

But leave my paper alone!! A few days ago the Boston Globe introduced "G" to replace "Sidekick."

It's too early to tell how I am going to adjust to the new format but one thing I can tell you - I had quite a time handling that section. The paper did not feel good in my hands, I had trouble turning the pages, they were flopping all over the place.

For those of you who follow me you know "I Can't Open It", "I Can't See It" and "I Can't Get It Out." Now "I Can't Fold It."

What the heck, why was I having such a problem? I finally figured it out - when they changed the format, they also changed the quality of the paper. I know, I know, their readership is down, their advertising revenue is down and their expenses are up.

But this "old old" lady doesn't like this change!!

SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
My den has two very large windows and today before I started making a new post I took a moment to look out of one of those windows. The trees have started to lose their leaves, some still have vivid colors. It won't be long before they will be bare.

This started me thinking about all the changes that go on around us. The world changes, the weather changes and we change.

One of the things that never changes is a good recipe!!

Back in 2005 I put up a recipe for Apple Crisp, it's easy to make and always makes a big hit. Apples are plentiful this time of year and with the holidays coming up I thought I would put it up just the way I posted it back then.

Enjoy ;-)

NICE AND EASY APPLE CRISP
With Thansksgiving around the corner I started to think of the nice and easy recipe that I used to make for the holidays. I don't do much cooking or baking these days but for those of you who still entertain, here is a delicious way to top off a holiday dinner.

APPLE CRISP

6 - 8 apples (Macs, Cortland or Golden Delicious)
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 stick butter (or margarine)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 c sugar
1 c flour
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c chopped nuts
1/3 c raisins (I prefer golden raisins)

In a 9x13 inch pan (buttered), fill with peeled, cored and sliced apples until 3/4 full. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons sugar over apples. Melt the stick of butter (or margarine) and add to the mixed remaining ingredients. Spoon over apple mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Good served warm with ice cream. Tastes good cold too!

Hint: The mixture will be sticky. To make it easier to spread the dough, wet your hands and spread evenly. Don't worry if it doesn't look good, It will be fine once it comes out of the oven.

Enjoy!

A BIG QUESTION
A few weeks ago I was having a conversation with a friend about my blog. Her reaction was, "what a wonderful hobby you have." I've been thinking about what she said ever since.

I never thought of my blog as a hobby.

The definition of the word HOBBY is:
"A subject or activity pursued for pleasure rather than for payment."
That's all well and good but I think there is more to blogging than that.

When I hear the word hobby I think of activities like stamp collecting, knitting, painting, arts and crafts and lots of similar solitary activites. There are hobbies like tennis and golf where several people participate.

Blogging is a solitary activity but it reaches out to people.

So I looked up the word AVOCATION:
"An occupation or hobby that one has in addition to one's regular work or profession."
NO - that's not it either.

Maybe we have to invent a new word to describe what we do. Any ideas?

THE THREE DAY WEDDING
Kimberly Wright Church Wedding Photos

The wedding took place in York, Maine. It rained the whole weekend, it not only rained, it poured and there even was an alert that a hurricane was coming. Whatever was going on outside, it did not dampen the spirits of the guests and the bridal party.

I shared a room with a family member who is 95 years old. She and I had to be the oldest guests at the wedding but there were no flies on us, we met the challenge and keep up with all those young people but there was one afternoon when we bowed out and had a nap. Oh, was that good, after all the running around we did.

The reception was held at the York Reading Room in York Harbor. Wherever you sat you could see the ocean.

Even though the sun was not shining the turbulent sea was a sight to behold.

Years ago when I went to an affair there was a band that played music that I could dance to.

Today it's a DJ that delivers the music and rarely plays a fox-trot. They did play one and I had the pleasure of dancing with Steve. Next number was a jitterbug which was my favorite. (Glenn Miller's In The Mood.) Carol and I had fun with that dance and then the band played (I can't tell you what that was or what we were doing but it was great!!)

The bride's mother thought of so many details, she even had a bucket of flip-flops for all the tired feet!

Time for the wedding cake: it was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen.

It was decorated with red roses and sea shells - they looked so real - turns out they were edible - delicious!!

The three day wedding was a great opportunity to spend quality time with people that I might just get together with for an afternoon or evening.

It was a good time all around - wonderful occasion, wonderful food and great people to be with!

NOTE: Just in case you missed it, last week I was one of the guest bloggers on Time Goes By while Ronni was away. Subject was "Young Old - Old-Old". Take a look.
