SPECIAL THANKS
The video that was posted on Monday was taken by my daughter-in-law Carol. She took over since Steve was away at a conference in Seattle on, guess what, blogging.
I want to thank Carol for her support and doing the video. It made me feel good having her there with me, and believe me I needed all the support I could get.
Thanks Steve, doing the editing, adding those captions and capturing the highlights of my presentation was perfect. As always you do a great job.
If you would like to see more of my son's videos, go to his video blog and take a look at "The Carol and Steve Show", they do one every Monday.
Enjoy,
Millie

Speaker: Millie Garfield
My Mom's Blog by Thouroughly Modern Millie
Session 4
Hear how, at 79 years young, Millie Garfield became one of the Internet's oldest bloggers, according to The Ageless Project.
With the help of her son Steve Garfield, a video producer, editor and videoblogger, Millie learned about blogging, jumped on the internet, and has been posting regularly since 2003.
In this session Millie will tell you how she got started, how blogging has brought a new level of enjoyment to her life, and how she has made many friends from all over the world.
With an authentic and humorous voice, a knack for story telling and frequent updates, Millie's blog, My Mom's Blog, shows that people want to hear from someone with a story to tell.
A SPECIAL DAY
Friday, June 24th and the day finally came when I made my presentation at the AMA workshop about blogs!
Surprisingly I was not nervous about doing this and I think there were two reasons for this. First I love blogging and am amazed at how it has enriched my life. It is easy to talk about something that you are enthusiastic about.
The second reason I was so comfortable doing this was the encouraging words that Toby said to me, things like, "They are going to love you" and " you will the hit of the day." Thanks, Toby.
When I arrived with my daughter-in-law Carol we were greeted warmly and introduced to some of the speakers. Everyone was so nice.
The room was filled with young people and that was a joy for me. Being at a workshop with young men and women was a unique experience for me as I am always with seniors.
I found seeing how the workshop was conducted very interesting, all the details that had to be worked out from the "coffee and" to the delicious lunch, floor plan and so much more.
I really enjoyed hearing what the various speakers had to say, how they presented their particular subjects and how enthusiastic they were. I did understand a good portion of what they were talking about but there is a whole lot more for me to learn.
While I was waiting to give my presentation I was thinking that if the audience looked like they were losing interest I would eliminate some of the posts I planned to read. Not only did I read all the posts that I had planned on, I showed two video blogs. They loved them.
Well, when I started to speak I felt they were really listening and when I read something humorous they responded with a great deal of laughter!
Toby told me it would be a fun day and it sure was!

MY FAVORITE QUOTE
My favorite quote happens to be one that I learned from my mother.
"IF YOU DON'T GO OUT, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN"
Think about that! For sure if you stay home, nothing will happen.
On the other hand if you do go out, anything is possible.
It might be something like bumping into a neighbor you have not seen in a while.
She tells you about a good book she has just read and guess what, you were looking for something new to read. She also fills you in on that man that just moved in, he is a widower, good looking and drives at night!
You might talk to a friend at the pool and she tells you where you can get a good buy on tuna, imagine, only 77 cents a can.
You might be browsing in a department store and the salesgirl is just marking down something you have had your eyes on for a long time. Bingo!!
Think about it. What happens when you stay home - nothing
What happens when you go out - one never knows!
I would like to hear from you - what has happened to you when you went out.

CINDERELLA MAN
I saw Cinderella Man Saturday night and have not stopped thinking or talking about it yet.
The cast was outstanding, Russell Crowe as Jim Braddock did such a fine job as a husband, father and boxer. I was particularly moved when he spoke to his childred, he portrayed a man with a big sensitive heart.
The scenes with his wife, played by Rene Zellweger, showed so much about their loving relationship. There were scenes where the children were present to witness the love the couple had for each other. Beautiful. Mae, Jim's wife, stood by her man through thick and thin and there was plenty of thin.
Then there was Craig Bierko as Max Baer. I remember hearing about Baer when I was a child and remember that he was a good looking guy and a ladies man. Perfect casting.
Last but not least was Paul Giamatti as Joe Gould, Jim's manager. What a great job he did! I am so glad that he got this part because if he hadn't I would always think of him as "Miles" in Sideways. It did take me a while to see him in this role. Some of my friends did not realize who he was until we discussed it after the movie. He looked so different.
Not only have I been thinking about the actors who did such a fine job, I have been thinking about the depression. I was born in 1925 so at the height of the depression I was about 10 years old.
My father worked in a restaurant, never lost his job but money was tight. I did not realize we were poor because everyone I knew was in the same boat. One of the treats we had was when dad would bring home a salami, hang it in the pantry and we would take a slice now and then. It tasted so good, not like the salami you get in the deli today.
When my mother got her hands on a chicken, watch out! First she made chicken soup using those tiny chicken feet that were so sweet. Today when you buy a chicken you do not get the feet. I don't know what they do with the feet today, a chicken still MUST HAVE FEET!
When the soup was done she would roast some of the chicken, leave some in the soup and then make giblets out of the gizzard, heart, and liver.
The highest grossing movie last week was "Mr & Mrs Smith". "Cinderella Man" is not getting the audience, could be young people only want to see cops, robbers and car chases.
Maybe word of mouth with bring in the audiences. I'll be watching!

AMA -Blogs:Marketing Beyond the Website
Would you believe I have been invited to participate in a workshop on blogs!
Toby Bloomberg is chair person of this workshop which will be held on Friday, June 24 at the Batterymarch Conference Center at the Wyndham Hotel. Even though the focus of this workshop is on how to incorporate blogs into a marketing strategy, she thought it would be great fun if I told the story of My Mom's Blog. I have not spoken before a group for many years, gave it some thought and decided that since I am so enthusiastic about blogs, I would do it.
My son Steve from Of On A Tangent contributes a great deal to my blog, does the video blogs with me and adds those great appropriate picture to my posts. Unfortunately he will not be able to share the lime light with me that day but his wife Carol will be with me and will be doing the video.
Looking forward to a fun day!

A VERY SAD STORY
In this mornings Boston Globe, Annie's Mailbox had a very sad letter from a 58 year old lady that has been in a relationship with a 68 year old man for the past 10 years.
They live in different towns and until recently they would take turns traveling to each other's place. In the past they did fun things together, ate out and went on expensive trips. Now things have changed. He no longer travels to her town and expects her to travel the 75 miles to his place, bring the groceries so they can eat in and does not even help her carry the bags inside the house or help with her luggage. He sleeps in his lounge chair or watches TV for hours.
She cleans his house, does the laundry and cooks the meals! And every weekend he has some new ailment to complain about. She says she knows she should stop seeing him but can not bring herself to do it because she is an OLD LADY and there is nothing out there for her.
Annie suggested that he see his doctor and find out what is going on.
My suggestion to her is to take herself to a therapist and find out why she is clinging to someone that is not giving her anything. Ok, he makes her feel needed but she is wasting her time.
Some women are stuck in a marriage that is one sided, she is still young and should move on with her life.

WATERGATE MOLD
It was time for me to make a new post and I had nothing special to write about so I thought I would post a recipe that would be good for this time of year. It was always a hit, nice and easy to make, good dessert for the summer and especially good for a large group.
To my surprise I pick up the newspaper this morning and what do you know, the feature story is about WATERGATE. That is the name of the dessert I planned to write about, so here it is.
MILLIE'S WATERGATE MOLD
2 packages instant Pistachio Pudding (do not cook)
2 containers (8 oz.) Cool Whip
2 cans (20 oz.) crushed pineapple with juice
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 jar drained maraschino cherries, cut in pieces
1 cup miniature marshmallows
Mix all ingredients together and pour into a large glass bowl. Garnish with some drained and blotted cherries. Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve.
When you serve this to company be sure to have copies of the recipe available.
Enjoy!
