Are you in PAIN?
A few weeks ago Ronni from over at "Time Goes By" made a post about all the annoying ads on TV about the elderly and their medical needs - pills for everything that ails them.

Well, here in Florida you should see ALL the ads directed at the elderly.

Here is just a sampling:
PAIN INSTITUTE - SUCCESSFULLY TREATING ARTHRITIS PAIN, BACK PAIN, HIP PAIN, SPINAL PAIN ETC. ETC.

HEARING CENTER - FREE Electronic Test

FREE Video Ear Inspection

FREE Hearing Aid Cleaning

DENTAL DREAM TEAM Implants, Aesthetics, and I.V. Sedation

FOOT CARE Peripheral Neuropathy

STOP Lower Back Pain and Sciatica NOW With Lasting Results

Eliminate Loose Dentures - Securely Anchor Your Dentures

ARE YOU IN PAIN? NEW PATIENTS SEEN SAME DAY

IMPLANTS A.M. DINNER P.M.

DENTURE REPAIRS - ADJUSTMENTS - RELINES WHILE YOU WAIT

OPTICAL SHOP - FREE LENSES WITH ANY FRAME PURCHASE
Believe it or not all the above ads appeared in the same issue of a daily newspaper. Not only that, I want you to know I didn't include all the health care ads that ran that day.

If I need a doctor down here I ask my friends for a referral. I suppose if you are new in town, you would take a chance and call a doctor who advertised.

One thing's for sure, if it weren't for those medical ads, car care and restaurant ads, the newspaper would not survive.

WINDING DOWN AND PACKING UP
WINDING DOWN

My clubhouse offers several shows a month, since March is such a busy month I only signed up for one show. I wanted to leave some dates open so I could get together with friends I haven't seen all season.

Trying to make a date for lunch or dinner is a difficult thing to do. Everyone has commitments, they either have family visiting from out of state, play cards, have show tickets, or have doctor appointments. If you are trying to get together with a couple it's a sure bet one or the other has a doctor's appointment.

I finally got together with old friends who lives down here permanently. We spent a wonderful afternoon at a local deli where I had the very best hot corn beef sandwich on rye bread.

Hot Pastrami at 3 G's

We had a great visit and a delicious lunch.

I have another friend who lives down here permanently, spoken to her on the phone several times but with one thing and another, we were not able to get together. She was especially busy going to rehearsals for a show that her condo was working on.

If your friend is going to appear on stage - you go see the show. That's how I got to see her. It was a fun production and my friend not only sang in the show, she did the make-up for the cast.

Another thing that I have been working on is trying to use up the food in my freezer. It has turned out to be a no win situation. Friends are starting to go back north SO we go out for a good-by lunch or dinner. I wind up taking home doggie bags, my inventory just gets bigger instead of smaller. I can just eat so much!!

PACKING UP

Most of the clothes I took down with me, I haven't worn. It's been such a cold winter I rarely wore any short sleeve tops or capri pants, forget the bathing suits altogether.

As a matter of fact I had to buy a long heavy bathrobe which I wore most mornings.

One of my blogging friends reminded me not to carry a scissors in my handbag otherwise the security at the airport would take it away from me. Thanks for the reminder.

The local supermarket has been running promotions - buy one - get one free. Well, I fell for that but how much can I use SO I'll be packing up the surplus food in my car.

What I don't put in the car will go to some friends and neighbors. They'll have lots of goodies to remember me by!

Pretty soon I'll be flying high, winding up and unpacking!

THE WEATHER - AGAIN
There is a first time for everything - This is the first time in all the years that I have been blogging that I am writing about the same thing two weeks in a row.

Yesterday we had high winds, temperatures in the high 70's, heavy rain and tornado warnings.

Drinving in the Rain in Ireland

Fortunately we did not get hit with a tornado but it was not a pleasant day.

Today we are having very heavy rains - no heavy winds, no tornado warnings but it's raining heavy enough so that I canceled the plans I had for the day.

Weeks ago while I was out shopping I came across an attractive bathing suit, the price was right, the colors were lovely and when I tried on the suit, it fit! Optimist that I am, I bought the suit with hopes of wearing it in the near future. It is laying quietly and patiently in a dresser draw.

I'll be leaving in a few weeks, the way things are going it looks like I'll have to wait until I get up north to get my suit wet!

Pretty soon I'll be packing all the clothes I brought down here, most of which have been hanging in my closet, not touched by human hands!

The only time I've been to the pool area this season is when we play Mah Jongg.

My group likes to play outside so even if it is cool out, we bundle up and play outdoors.

Last week we set up outside and played for about two hours and than it got so cold and windy we had to wrap up the tiles and gingerly carry them inside the clubhouse.

Forecast for the next few days - sunny and mild - I'll believe it when I see it!

THIS and THAT
THE WEATHER

This is the big topic of conversation down here.

I have had the heat on practically every day since I arrived in Florida three months ago.

Some days have been, not only cold but windy and that makes it feel all the colder. Some days we have had heavy rains, they don't last long but if you happen to be driving - there is no visibility.

Oscars 2010

The other day I saw Boston's morning temperature was 49 degrees - our morning temperature was 48 degrees!! Go figure!

If you bumped into me one day you would see me wearing a turtle neck jersey, denim jacket and pants, bump into me the next day you would see me wearing the same thing but I would have changed the jewelry! Some days when it is really cold I wear what I wore on the plane coming down to Florida.

Today I was finally able to shut off the heat and open the windows.

One good thing about the weather this season - at least when it rains, we don't have to shovel it!!

THE ACADEMY AWARDS

Wouldn't you know, the night of the awards this movie buff will not be home to see the awards.

Months ago I signed up with a group to go by bus to Fort Lauderdale for dinner and a show at "Lips."

The awards run so late I'll probably get home in time to see the major awards.

I won't be home to see the entire show BUT Steve and Carol will be there!!!

Oscars 2010

Steve was invited by Kodak to attend the event, sit in the bleachers and take photos of the stars as they walk down the red carpet!!!

Can't wait to see the shots that he'll take and hear all about the evening!!!!
