I CHEATED BIG TIME!
Into every life a little rain must fall, and so it was with me last week.

I had the greatest time eating just what I wanted.

Forget the NO sodium,  NO high cholesterol, NO fried foods, and NO eating that wonderful white bread!

It all happened very gradually.

I didn't realize the track I was taking, but as time went on I became aware that I was having FUN eating.

It started at dinner one evening when none of the featured menu items appealed to me.  That rarely happens, but when it does there is always a dish like an omelet, broiled fish, chicken, or grilled hamburger available.

I not only chose the hamburger, I had some delicious french fries with it!

Of course you have to have a pickle and some coleslaw to top it all off.

Boy, that meal was a real treat!

EGG SALAD SANDWICH

The next afternoon I decided to have an egg salad sandwich for lunch.

Years ago the word was that too many eggs were not good for you so I cut down on "egg eating."

Now "they" changed their tune and are saying that eggs are good for you, so maybe that lunch shouldn't be in the cheating group.

WHITE BREAD

Last, but certainly not least - "white bread."

If there was a love of my life department it would be "white bread."  The kind that when you toast it, it comes out crisp.

For years now I've been buying whole wheat bread, paying big bucks for it because it's supposed to be better for you.

I've tried many different brands of wheat bread and haven't found any that I enjoy eating.

I recently went into a neighborhood market that was having a sale on WHITE BREAD - a large loaf for $1.29.

How could I resist?

When I toast that bread, it tastes like how I remember white bread tasted when I was a child!!

Oh, happy day!!!

Now that's worth cheating for!!

Have you cheated recently?

SIMPLE PLEASURES
Most of the time we take the weather for granted but when you get a day in mid October that's sunny, in the high 70's, it's more like a day that you would experience in early September, it's really special.

I had that kind of a day recently.

I took full advantage of it by just plain sitting out  on my patio, sharing the sun and a glass of wine with my daughter in-law.

What could be better than that?

Well, -  maybe sitting on a lounge chair at the beach watching the waves, smelling the ocean water and feeling the sun on me.

That's not going to happen so "just plain sitting outside" was an A+ experience!

That same evening I had a delicious dinner at the clubhouse - didn't have to make it, didn't have to clean up afterwords , all I had to do was enjoy it and I sure did!

This afternoon I drove to a store just a short distance from where I live and finally was able to take care of a few things that "have been waiting for my attention."

My body has not been cooperating with my head for a few months now and I've been limited in what I've  been able to do BUT finally yesterday and today I'm feeling more like my "old self."

I don't know why I'm feeling better. Maybe it's the fact that I've been resting more, maybe it's because I've been using hot instead of cold compresses, whatever it is, it feels very good to feel like my "old self."

I have to end this post by saying, "TO BE CONTINUED."

"GET IT?" ;-)

What are your simple pleasures?

A NINE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
upload
Image: Fall in New England

I'm pretty good at remembering birthdays and anniversaries but once in a blue moon something slips by me.  It almost happened to me this month but a new reader, who was just getting acquainted with my blog, noted that I've been blogging since October 2003.

Over the years I have blogged about the lighter side of life, movies, food, tv shows, winters in Florida, relationships, childhood, the single life, and married life.  Some of those posts may have had a sad side to them but I always managed to find some humor in them.

Oh yes, and let's not forget my series of videos highlighting the problems with packaging, "I Can't Open It."  They were always good for a laugh!

Haven't done those lately because I now can open just about anything!!!

Millie Garfield and Florida Oranges

In January of 2007 I made a post, "My Trip From 65 to 81"  covering things like retirement, losses, changes in me and life in general.

That was one of the few serious and thoughtful posts that I've made over the years.

Now I could write a post, "My Trip from 81 to 87."  But, you know what, I'm not going to do it!!!

I'm going to take the easy way out and say, if you have been reading my blog you know what's been going on these past few years.

Life moves on, things change, we change, time moves faster, we move slower, we may eat less but still gain weight and try to smile, rain or shine!

A POST ABOUT NOTHING
CHAPTER NINE - ABOUT NOTHING

Image: George Constanza and Jerry Seinfeld. Courtesy NBC.

Remember when George Constanza had the idea to convince the network to produce a show about nothing starring Jerry Seinfeld?

I've been thinking, "what can I make a post about today. There really isn't anything that I've been doing, reading, seeing or even eating that I can write about so here goes "nothing."

Last week I took a six-pack of Prednisone hoping that it would relieve the pain I was experiencing.

"NOTHING."

When I completed the 6 pack I informed the doctor that I had "No Relief."

The physician's assistant that I spoke with suggested that I take an over-the-counter medication, or he could give me a prescription to ease the pain.

I decided I would try the over the counter medication first.

The next day I had an appointment for physical therapy.

The young lady was very knowledgeable and was "easy" on me.  She did say that since this was my first time I could expect some discomfort the next day.

Well the next day, it was not "NOTHING," It was "SOMETHING."

Again, I called the physician's assistant.

I told him what was going on, and at that point in time I said "ok, I'll try the pain medication."

Well, I got the medication delivered to me, no problem this time.

Unfortunately or fortunately the pharmacy knows me now!

I'll spare you the details, but the bad reaction I had, from the pill that was supposed to help, was "NOT NOTHING."

After a few days, the effects of the medicine got out of my system and the pain eased up on it's own.

I'll be seeing the doctor as soon as he returns from his vacation, which could be in a few weeks.

So, that's my story about "NOTHING."

I think it really turned out to be "SOMETHING."

I must tell you, I really got a kick out of writing about "NOTHING."
